Boipariguda: Ramesh was quite excited about college life, but his dreams crashed due to his family’s poor finances which prevented them from buying a mobile phone.
Ramesh Nayak is the son of Bhagat Nayak, a resident of Mathapada in Boipariguda block of Koraput district.
Ramesh passed the matriculation examination in 2019. After the results came out the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) started the admission procedure for Plus II classes. But poor finances prevented Ramesh from applying for Plus II.
However, after the results of the supplementary matriculation exams were declared, the CHSE restarted admissions for Plus II. Now, Ramesh got another chance to get admission to Plus II as his father had arranged funds.
As there was no phone in his family he had given the phone number of another villager while filling up the admission form on the CHSE’s online portal. But that man deleted the message he had got regarding Plus II admission.
Doubting the delay in the arrival of the intimation letter, Ramesh checked the info on intimation letters from a cyber café in Boipariguda.
There he got to know that the date for admissions had already passed. When he contacted the Principal he said he could not admit him.
Mobile phones are not considered a luxury now. But Ramesh’s family could not afford a mobile phone.
In Boipariguda block there is no facility for higher secondary education. The students have to travel 30 km to 40 km from this block for that.
The Tribal Welfare Department had proposed a college for the block. But due to the administration’s apathy there is still no college in the district.
