Berhampur: An under-trial prisoner, who was receiving treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, breathed his last Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as 73 years old Kirtan Nayak of Banapur village under Badagarh police limits in Ganjam district.
Sources said that Nayak had been behind bars at Sorada jail since October 28, 2018 when he was arrested for his alleged involvement in a murder case. A paralysis patient, he had also been suffering from heart ailments.
He was shifted to Berhampur Circle Jail July 18 this year following his complaint of not feeling well. Later he was admitted at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital. He was undergoing treatment at the male medicine ward. Sunday he died after suffering a cardiac arrest.
ADM Pradeep Kumar Maharana conducted the panchnama of the body as a magistrate in the presence of Kirtan’s wife Bishand Nayak, brother Murali Nayak, nephew Mahaswar Nayak and the police before the body was sent for post-mortem.
Medical outpost police registered a case of unnatural death.
