Malkangiri: After a brief lull, reports of plastic eggs being sold in market have surfaced again in Odisha. The latest such incident has been reported from Malkangiri district where a consumer has filmed breaking of an egg that he claims to be a plastic one.
According to reports, Digambar Behera from Hi Tech colony in Malkangiri town purchased some eggs from local market for consumption. However, he was surprised to notice the rather odd shape of the eggs that appeared to be more rounded.
His worst fears came true after he broke the outer shell of an egg. The yolk appeared to be contained in a plastic film that won’t break with a light jolt to the shell. Besides, the plastic-like casing on the yolk was stretchable and was able to bear the weight of the yolk on its own when lifted making it look like a ping-pong ball.
To test it further, he burned the separated inner casing and it started burning and melting like plastic, Digambar said. He has videographed the entire incident.
Digambar further added apart from local consumers, these eggs are also supplied to anganwadi centers and schools for mid-day meals.
It may be mentioned here that plastic egg scare is nothing new in the state or for that matter the country. Recently a complaint was lodged in Nayapalli police station in Bhubaneswar against a shopkeeper for allegedly selling plastic eggs.
