Barang: Already in stress over the death of four elephants owing to Herpes Virus last week, Nandankanan Zoo Authorities have become more worried over the deteriorating health condition of the lone Nilgiri langur here in Bhubaneswar.
This female langur has reduced its food intake since Friday. It has stopped taking fruits completely.
A source said that its frequency of relieving itself has also become abnormal. While the authorities have become more concerned about the arboreal animal’s declining health condition, the exact cause of its illness is yet to be diagnosed.
Under an animal-exchange programme, a pair of Nilgiri langur was brought to Nandankanan zoo from Vandalur Zoo in Chennai September 26, 2017. Three days later, the female langur was let go out of the enclosure. The male was released into open March 20, 2018. The male companion died May 31, 2019. The next day, the female langur gave birth to an infant. But the infant could not live longer and died August 14. The female langur has since been living a lonely life.
