Bhubaneswar: Technology is the savior these days. More so when one uses high-end technology for the emergency services and get instant result. A similar incident happened to a Spokane resident in Washington, whose Apple watch was instrumental in eventually saving his life.
A US citizen, Gabe Burdett, has shared a post on Facebook detailing how his father’s Apple watch detected his fall and informed Gabe through the device’s “emergency alert service.”
The post was shared September 20 and it went viral in no time. The incident happened when Burdett and his father Bob decided to meet for a mountain biking session. But few minutes before meeting, Gabe received a message on his cellphone from his father’s Apple watch that the device “detected a Hard Fall.”
Since the alert message also shared the location, it didn’t take much time for Gabe to reach the place where the device “detected a Hard Fall”. On reaching the spot though, Gabe couldn’t find Bob and immediately received another update, which shared Bob’s altered location as Sacred Heart Medical Center.
“Dad flipped his bike at the bottom of Doomsday, hit his head and was knocked out until sometime during the ambulance ride. The watch had called 911 with his location and EMS had him scooped up and to the hospital in under a 1/2 hr,” Gabe wrote in his post. He also added that his father was ‘doing great’ and his scans were all clean.
By sharing this, Gabe advised everyone to set up the ‘HARD FALL detection’ feature on their devices. “Had he fallen somewhere on the High Drive trails or another remote area, the location would have clued EMS in on where to find him,” he further added in his post.
The post went viral attracting over 5.2 lakh reactions and more than 4.6 lakh shares. It’s still being shared and liked by the social media.
“I had no idea this is an available technology,” a Facebook user commented. “That is super amazing. So glad he was rescued,” another chipped in. “Just updated mine… thank you for this! Grateful everything is ok,” a third user wrote.
