Patna: Turumunga police arrested six members of an interstate dacoity gang at Patna block in Keonjhar district Tuesday late night.
After registering a case, the accused were court-forwarded Wednesday, said SDPO Harihar Pani.
The arrested members of the dacoity gang were identified as Gobinda Giri, Manikar Nayak, Rahul Nayak, Sukanta Prusty, Amulya Mohapatra and Bishnu Senapati. The accused were reported to be from different areas of the district.
Six mobile phones, 16 bikes and several sharp-edged weapons were seized from their possession. Police said the gang members were apprehended while they were hatching a plan in Keonjhar town. Tipped off about the group having assembled at an abandoned building near Baiunsamuli reserve forest situated on the outskirts of Keonjhar, police swung into action.
“Around 12:15am Tuesday, we conducted a raid at the place and arrested the six dacoits. Three others managed to escape,” said IIC Amitav Das, Turumunga police station.
He added that based on the information, the accused were involved in looting various banks and finance company. They were targeting people who were returning from banks.
