New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the chief executive officer (CEO) of Indira Sagar Polavaram Project Authority to appear before it during the next hearing of the matter November 7.
The NGT pronounced the order while hearing two petitions filed by Pentapati Pulla Rao and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy alleging large scale violation of environmental norms including illegal dumping and lack of planning in the construction of coffer dam and back water affect on Bhadrachalam and Telangana regions.
The NGT bench, headed by Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, examined the joint inspection report submitted by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) and District Collector of West Godavari.
The report opined that project work did not comply with the recommendations made by the joint inspection committee.
The environment watchdog also questioned the Polavaram Project Authority and state of Andhra Pradesh for not following the protocol such as rehabilitating project affected persons while constructing coffer dam.
