Jagatsinghpur: In an appalling incident, two labourers, died due to asphyxiation after getting trapped inside an under-construction septic tank full of sewage in Sujang village under Sadar police limits in Jagatsinghpur district Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Raju Bhoi of Sujang and Prakash Barik of Mandasahi.
According to sources, the bone-chilling incident occurred when some labourers were engaged in the construction work of a septic tank of one Balaram Pati of the village.
Raju and Prakash got stuck inside the septic tank after entering it. They soon fell unconscious as the septic tank was filled with toxic gases and devoid of oxygen. Moments later, they stopped responding to those who were present outside the tank and supervising the work.
Both were spotted lying unconscious inside the tank, following which they were rushed to the Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where the doctor declared them dead.
On being informed, police reached the place and started an investigation into this matter. The officials also sent the body for post-mortem.
