Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths Monday arrested a police official for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from a person at a mall near Vani Vihar in Bhubaneswar.
The accused has been identified as Debendra Kumar Sahoo, SI of Balakati police outpost in Khurdha district.
According to Vigilance officials, one of their teams laid a trap and caught the SI red-handed while he was accepting bribe. Debendra had demanded the amount from Ramakanta Sahoo, a scrap dealer of Rathijema in Balakati area, for releasing a pickup van of the latter which was seized by police few days ago and kept at the outpost.
Acting on the complaint of Ramakanta, the anti-corruption agency sleuths laid a trap and caught the cop red-handed while he was receiving the money from Ramakanta at the mall.
Following the arrest, the sleuths has raided his parental house in Jajpur, government quarter at Unit-IX and a rented house near the police outpost by three Vigilance teams.
