Bhubaneswar: Odisha powerlifters, like always did very well in the recently-concluded National Powerlifting Championships which was conducted September 29, 30 at Idukki in Kerala. Odisha finished with 11 medals – four gold, five silver and two bronze.
Bichita Nayak (190kg in squat, 137.5kg in bench press and 215kg in deadlift) got the gold with a total lift of 542.50kg in the men’s 66kg senior segment.
The second gold medallist was Abhishek Mohanta (177.5kg in squat, 105kg in bench press and 210 kg in deadlift) with an overall lift of 492.5kg in the men’s 66kg junior segment.
The third yellow metal was bagged by Bharati Patra in the women’s 47kg senior segment while Devi Singh bagged gold in the women’s 57kg senior category.
Silver Medallists: Debasish Mohanty (74kg Men’s junior), Rakesh Bhukta (men’s 105kg senior), Rajendra Parida (105kg Men’s Masters-II), Simarani Singh (47kg Women’s senior) and Prabhati Singh (52kg, Women’s junior)
Bronze medalists: Biswajeet Jena lifted (74kg Men’s senior), Sushama Rai (47kg Women’s junior),
Odisha finished first runners-up in the men’s and women’s segments.
