Binjharpur: Six persons were injured in a cracker blast at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Paschim Bachhol village under here in Jajpur district, Saturday evening.
The injured were identified as Ramakant Sahu, 45, his son Soubhagya, 23, mother Rukmini Sahu, 80, sister Shantilata Sahu, 50, and another youth Sudhanshu Das, 23, son of Ekadasi Das.
The injured were admitted to the Binjharpur community health centre from where Ramakant and his son were shifted to the Jajpur district headquarters hospital. Later, they were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.
According to locals, the mishap occurred Saturday evening when Ramakanta and his family members were engaged in making crackers inside their residence. There was a lot of explosive material around and somehow it got ignited. What followed was a huge explosion injuring Ramakanta and his family members. A portion of the house was also damaged substantially.
Fire personnel controlled the blaze while Binjharpur IIC Siba Charan Behera conducted a probe and seized the unexploded crackers. Later, SP Charan Singh Meena and SDPO Rabindra Kumar Jena took stock of the situation. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. However, sources said Ramakant was illegally making firecrackers.
