Rohit Sharma, who excelled as an opener in the just concluded Test match against South Africa at Visakhapatnam has revealed the recipe behind fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s success. The speedster took five wickets in the second innings as India dismissed South Africa for 191 runs in the second innings to emerge winners by 203 runs.
Mohammed Shami had gone wicket-less in South Africa’s first innings. However, in the second innings Shami’s accurate spell blew the Proteas ago. In his first spell Shami took three wickets to reduce South Africa to 70 for eight. He cleaned up Temba Bavuma, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock in his fiery opening spell.
However, then Dane Piedt and Senuran Muthuswamy defied the Indian bowlers for a while with a 91-run for the ninth wicket. However, Mohammed Shami then came back for his second spell to get rid of Dane Piedt and Kagiso Rabada to set up an emphatic win for India.
Rohit Sharma, who also got two centuries in the game, was asked the reason behind Mohammed Shami’s success in the second innings. “Well we know what Shami can do when he is fresh and a bit of biryani,” Rohit told reporters. But the way he said it, had everyone in spits.
This incidentally is the fifth time that Mohammed Shami has taken a fifer in Test cricket. He had a good World Cup too with a hat-trick.
