Phulbani: A man committed suicide after trying to immolate his wife in Shankarakhol Gaudasahi village in Kandhamal district Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Rabin Kata.
According to the villagers, Rabin used to get drunk and beat his wife, Urmila. He was even arrested earlier on charges of beating his wife and torching his house. Recently he was released from jail on bail. Following which the couple had an argument over some family dispute, late Tuesday night, when Rabin poured kerosene on Urmila and set her ablaze.
Urmila was initially rushed by some villagers to Kandhamal district headquarters hospital (DHH) in critical condition. After her condition worsened, she was shifted to MKCG hospital in Berhampur.
Robin hung himself with a rope from the ceiling of his house. The family members and villagers hurriedly burnt the man’s body without informing police.
No complaint has been lodged in connection with the incident as of now.
