Khurda: Some unidentified miscreants made an unsuccessful attempt to burgle Siko branch of Odisha Gramya Bank (OGB) under Jankia police limits here Friday night, police said.
The miscreants returned empty handed after they failed to enter into the locker room of the bank, police said.
According to police, the miscreants entered into the bank by cutting its window grille, Friday night. They had disconnected the power supply to avoid CCTVs installed at the bank, police said.
The incident came to light when some villagers spotted the damaged window Saturday morning.
On being informed, Khurda district Superintendent of Police Ajay Prasad Swain and Jankia police inspector in-charge Satyajit Lenka reached the spot and began a probe.
Police seized a gas cutter, a gas cylinder and some other equipment from the spot. They also seized the hard disc of the CCTVs, sources said.
Police have registered a case in this regard as per a complaint filed by the bank manager. A scientific team from Puri was also pressed into service to collect clues on the miscreants.
It is worth mentioning here that miscreants have been targeting various branches of Odisha Gramya Bank in Khurda district for last several years.
A group of robbers had robbed the Haladia branch of Odisha Gramya Bank of 5 kg gold and Rs 4.96 lakh July 11, 2011 by terrorizing the bankers with gun.
Police had arrested seven persons in connection with the incident and seized 1.8 kg gold and Rs 22,900 from them.
Similarly, miscreants had robbed the Naranagada branch of Odisha Gramya Bank of Rs 7.77 lakh and huge quantities of ornaments by hurling banks July 3, 2013. At least five persons including four bankers were injured in the incident.
“The authorities of Odisha Gramya Bank have failed to improve the security system at their branches in Khurda district. Taking advantage of the situation, the miscreants have been targeting the branches of the bank,” said a local.
