Bhubaneswar: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Friday released a data which revealed that major telecom service providers barring Reliance Jio, have witnessed sharp fall in number of subscribers in Odisha in the month of August.
TRAI’s report says, “BSNL lost over 5.25 lakh subscribers in August in Odisha. While Airtel lost 1.18 lakh subscribers and Vodafone Idea lost 1.11 lakh subscribers in August in the state.”
State-owned telecom operator BSNL added 7,504 new subscribers in July, 2019 but witnessed a drastic fall in August. Two major telecom operators Bharti Airtel and Vodafone-Idea also lost their subscribers consecutively in July and August in Odisha. According to the TRAI report, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea had lost over 90,000 subscribers each in the month of July.
However, Reliance Jio added 3.47 lakh new subscribers in Odisha in the month of August 2019, as per the subscriber data released by TRAI. In July, Reliance Jio added 3.53 lakh subscribers taking its total subscribers base in the state over 1.05 crore.
As per the subscriber data released by TRAI, overall mobile subscriber base in Odisha came down by 4.08 lakh in August. In July, total number of mobile subscribers in Odisha had increased by 1.79 lakhs and had reached 3.29 crore.
Reliance Jio remained undefeated, as the most preferred service provider in Odisha by adding highest number of subscribers every month in 2018-2019. It surpassed the milestone of 1 crore subscribers in Odisha in June 2019, within three years of commercial launch of its services.
