Keonjhar: Haladihi village of Kadakala panchayat under Bansapal block in Keonjhar district has Boigaon river on one end and Malda rivulet on the other end.
Sans any communication facilities like bridges across these two streams, villagers and school going children have to cross the rivers with the help of a rope to reach panchayat office and school.
About 50 families live in Haladiha village. The village does not have an all-weather road to Kadakala panchayat. In rainy season, Boigaon river and Malda rivulet are usually in spate.
“We have been demanding for bridges on these two rivers, but to no avail. School going children and aged people have a harrowing time crossing the rivers,” rued some villagers.
In case a patient needs to be shifted to hospital, the family members undergo a lot of mental trauma as no vehicle including ambulances can reach the village.
Villagers construct a wooden bridge across Boigaon river to go to the other end. But in rainy season, the bridge gets washed away, bringing communication to a halt.
In such circumstances, villagers and schoolchildren have to cross the river with the help of a rope stretched across the river, risking their lives.
The villagers have urged the administration to end their sufferings by constructing a bridge across the river.
