Kostha: Farmers in most parts of Suliapada block in Mayurbhanj district are a worried lot with paddy crops in acres being affected by pest, a report said.
Farmers lamented that Bulbul-induced rain damaged the crops while whatever crop was left out is now being attacked by pests.
Most farmers voiced their frustration as the diseases are not contained despite pesticide being applied. In some cases, leaves of paddy plants get scorched.
The farmers have desperately been running from block agriculture office to their farmlands, seeking advice from experts to save their crops, but to no avail.
Block agriculture officer said that crop damage report will be made available soon. Farmers said that the pesticides given by the agriculture department are infective against the spread of the disease. They demanded that agriculture officials come to their rescue in such situation to save their crops from pest.
The affected farmers demanded immediate steps by the department to assess the damage and ensure measures to facilitate crop insurance claims.
