New Delhi, Dec 26: A meeting of the Election Commission to discuss the possibility of assembly poll in Delhi in February and its preparations took place here Friday, sources said.A
According to the source, the meeting was chaired by Chief Election Commission V.S. Sampath.
“The commission discussed the likelihood of fresh election in February and the EC’s preparedness,” the source said, adding the commission could declare the poll dates for Delhi in the next couple of weeks.
Delhi is currently under president’s rule and being run by Lt Governor Najeeb Jung after Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal quit as chief minister in February over his government’s failure to pass the Jan Lokpal bill.
After the December 2013 elections threw up a hung house, the Bharatiya Janata Party failed to form a government, falling short of a majority in the 70-member house with 31 seats and one seat held by its ally Akali Dal.
The AAP formed a minority government with the backing of the eight legislators of the Congress. (IANS)
