Jajpur, August 10: Two newborns were injured after a ceiling fan in the gynaecology ward of the district headquarters hospital here fell on them Monday. They were the two-day-old babies of Bebina and Rabindra Kar of Nandipur village and Rashmita and Naresh Panda of Palatpur village in this district. After primary treatment, doctors said their condition was out of danger.
The incident occurred at 7 am when the newborns were lying beside their mothers on the verandah of the gynaecology ward. Locals said the incident was an outcome of the negligence of electricity officials and hospital authorities. They alleged due to unavailability of beds several pregnant women are forced to lie on the floor for treatment.
This has been going on over a long period as the district health authorities have never shown any concern towards the deplorable plight of patients admitted to the hospital, the locals alleged. The additional district medical officer refused to comment on the issue.
