Jhumpura: The government lays much importance on effective implementation of Swachh Bharat, but an alleged scam has scuttled its success here.
It has been alleged that in many cases funds provided to beneficiaries to build toilets have been misappropriated in tribal-dominated Jhumpura block of Keonjhar, a report said.
Here is a case in point. According to the report, Niranjan Nayak, a resident of Arshala panchayat alleged that Rs 12,000 meant for his toilet was bungled. He has lodged a complaint with Subhasmita Khamari, an engineer of the RWSS.
What is most surprising is that he has not built any toilet?
Niranjan has been frequenting to the RWSS office about his case. He alleged that the engineer has been only assuring him of looking into the matter, “but in reality she is doing nothing.” Meanwhile, Niranjan had gone to Malkangiri to work as manual labour. Despite repeated reminders by Niranjan, the RWSS has not looked into his case. This has been a talk of the town.
BDO Jayshree Beura said that his case will be investigated.
Social activists pointed out that even as the administration authorities have taken a lot of measures to make the area free of open defecation, such scam has played a spoiler.
They have demanded that the RWSS should monitor the execution of the toilets to ensure success of Swachh Bharat yojana.
