Bhubaneswar: Under the impact of a cyclonic circulation formed over Chhattisgarh and its nearby areas, the weathermen at the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar said the coastal and interior parts of the state are likely to receive thunderstorm and rainfall Wednesday.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), lightning and low to medium rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over these districts – Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur.
People in these districts are cautioned to stay indoors and take shelter in buildings and other safe locations as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, amid the IMD prediction, the state government has directed the collectors of the affected districts to be alert. They have been asked to immediately intimate the emergency operation centres about any damage that takes place owing to the thunderstorm. Farmers have been advised to cover their crops at mandis.
