Khurda: With IMD issuing ‘Yellow Warning’ for Khurda in view of super cyclone ‘Amphan’, the district administration has started evacuating people living in low-lying areas.
Addressing a press conference Khurda collector Sitanshu Kumar Rout said, “We had a discussion with BDOs and tehsildars over videoconference over the issue and have started evacuations. As many as 855 cyclone shelters have been identified and nodal officers have been assigned to them. The people housed in these centres will be provided with drinking water and food.”
Rout added that the administration intends to evacuate 86,000 people living in slum areas and kutcha houses to 855 cyclone shelters. Besides, two ODRAF teams have been deployed in the district.
According to IMD’s forecast Tuesday, heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds are likely to lash the pilgrim district Tuesday and Wednesday.
