Rourkela, Dec 30: One person was killed and one injured in a bike accident Tuesday after a bus hit the rear of the bike in which they were travelling near Balughat petrol pump.
The residents of Jagannath Colony, Akash Mallik (20) and Manoj Mallik, were heading for Panposh in a bike when a Jagannath bus on the Rourkela-Barkot-Rajamunda route heading in the same direction, hit the bike, killing Akash Mallik on the spot.
Manoj escaped with minor injuries. The bus was stopped at the Panposh Hockey Chowk by people who blocked National Highway-143 between 11am and 1pm in protest.
They demanded installation of traffic posts and compensation for the victim. Police had to resort to lathi-charge to control the protesters. The bus driver has been arrested and a case has been filed against him at Raghunath Palli police station.
