Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to include ‘Guided Self Study’ courses in the under graduate (UG) and post graduate (PG) syllabus. This will be implemented in both universities and college level courses from the 2020-21 academic sessions.
Notably, the study will cover 25 per cent of the total syllabus. The remaining 75 per cent will be done in classrooms.
The move assumes significance as many universities are mulling to revise their syllabus post lockdown. This is being done as the ensuing academic session will have a delayed start owing to COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Department of Higher Education the self study system will encourage e-learning and enhance competency level among students. The UG and PG students will follow the self study system or blended learning system which will be the combination of text books and e-learning resources.
According to the new modality issued by the Higher Education Department the second unit of each paper at the UG level will be earmarked for self study. At PG level, the departments will select the chapters for which self study will be required. No regular classroom teaching will be held for the chapters and units earmarked for self study of the students, though faculties will be allowed to hold four- hour doubt clearing sessions.
In a bid to maintain uniformity in the syllabus at UG level, text books and e-learning materials will be prescribed by the Odisha State Higher Education Council. On the other hand, at PG level the departments concerned of each university will suggest books, notes and e-learning materials.
