Bhubaneswar: As many as 167 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the past 24 hours in Odisha Tuesday taking the tally to 5,470. Gajapati, which reported 41 cases, recorded the highest number of cases from the state followed by 30 new cases from Ganjam district, 19 from Jagatsinghpur and 14 from Mayurbhanj district.
Out of the total 167 new COVID-19 cases, 150 cases were reported from quarantine centres while 17 are local contact cases, the I&PR Dept informed.
Ganjam district continues to account for the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the State. Ganjam has reported highest 955 COVID-19 positive cases so far.
Notably, the news of a temple servitor testing positive for COVID-19 has rattled many.
Informing about the development, Puri district administration officials informed that COVID-19 test of 1,143 servitors were conducted June 22 and all the samples except one have been found negative.
The district administration officials informed that the COVID-19 positive servitor has been shifted to a Covid Hospital before Rath Yatra rituals.
Apart from the COVID-19 test, the apex court had also capped the number of servitors and personnel who will be engaged in pulling of the during Rath Yatra at 500 for each chariot Monday.
