Bhubaneswar: Considering the loss of classroom teaching time due to COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, Odisha School and Mass Education department (S&ME) has decided to reduce the syllabus for Class I to XII students with the help and suggestion from SCERT expert committee and CHSE officials for the academic year 2020-21.
Addressing the media, School and Mass Education minister Samir Ranjan Dash Wednesday said, “The decision has been taken by the department after taking approval from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik”.

“To reduce the syllabus of class I to X student the SME department will take the help of State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) and to finalise the reduced Class XI to XII syllabus the department will take suggestions of Council Of Higher Education Department (CHSE).
On being asked about the extent of reduction in syllabus, the minister said, “At this point of time, we cannot confirm how much syllabus will be reduced because we are yet to decide on reopening of schools.”
Notably, all schools across Odisha have been closed till August 31 in view of the COVID19 pandemic.
