New Delhi: The Supreme Court, Wednesday, issued notice to the Bar Council of India and Odisha State Bar Council while hearing a petition seeking directions to the Bar Council to provide financial assistance to needy advocates.
A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde and comprising Justices R Subhash Reddy and BR Gavai heard the petition filed by Kiran Bala Maharana and issued notice.
Significantly, the petitioner pleaded the court to direct the respondents to provide immediate financial assistance to the petitioner and other applicants under the Odisha State Bar Council Emergency Financial Assistance Rules, 2020 approved by the Bar Council of India in view of unprecedented crisis faced by a large section of legal practitioners in Covid times.
The appellant said in the petition that she is suffering financially, mentally and emotionally and each and everyday is a struggle for her existence.
