Sundargarh: Two persons, including a woman, were killed and two other sustained critical injuries after a truck hit a van in which the victims’ were travelling near Sukha Bandha under Lahunipada police limits in Sundargarh district in the wee hours of Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Hemelata Patra and Narottam Patra, a minor, of Lasmi village.
Sources said that the victims were going to a hospital as one of them had consumed poison. Suddenly, a truck hit the vehicle van from the backside. The woman who consumed poison and the minor boy died on the spot. The driver of the ambulance and another family member sustained critical injuries.
After rescuing the injured, the locals admitted them to Lahunipada Hospital. However, doctors in the hospital referred the injured duo to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela as their condition deteriorated.
On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent them for post-mortem. Police also seized the truck from the scene of the accident. After committing the accident the driver of the truck fled from the spot.
The cops have initiated an investigation into the matter.
