Baripada: Monday morning had a surprise in the form of a wild elephant roaming freely inside the town for the residents of Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district.
Most residents of Murgabadi area in the town were still in their beds, enjoying their morning naps. A trumpet like sound woke them up. Before they could figure out what the sound was, a kind of uproar was evident out on the road that made some to run out of their houses to see what had happened. Some rushed to their balconies. What they saw was something that they had never ever imagined.
What they saw was a tusker striding right on the middle of the main road.
On being informed the forest department officials reached the spot in a while to prevent any damage to the lives and properties and to rescue the animal as well.
Sources said, the tusker had entered Baripada town from Ghana Ghana Pala jungle close to West Bengal border via Laxmiposi. As per the last report, the pachyderm took shelter near Pratiharipur village.
The forest department officials of Baripada forest department and Deuli forest department have kept a close watch on the wild animal’s movements.
However, as per the last report, the elephant caused no damage to any properties. But traffic did come to a halt for some hours on the National Highway- 18 which passes through the town as the jumbo was strolling down the road towards Pratiharipur village.
