Jharsuguda: The Jharsuguda district administration has announced a seven-day long shutdown in Jharsuguda town starting August 30. The move was taken keeping in view the steep rise in COVID-19 positive cases. Only essential and medical services will be allowed to function from 6.00am to 11.00am during the shutdown period. The shutdown restrictions will remain in force till September 5, official sources informed.

All shops and markets will remain closed during the period, except those selling essential commodities like milk, grocery, medicine and vegetables. Those who flout shutdown restrictions will be dealt with severely, the sources added.
So far Jharsuguda district has reported 1,033 positive cases among which 415 are active currently. A total of 617 patients have recovered while one has succumbed to the deadly disease.
The administration has appealed local residents to strictly abide by COVID-19 guidelines and to maintain social distancing in the days ahead, in order to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
