Rayagada: Within a span of five days, a family in Muniguda town of Rayagada district lost three members due to COVID-19.
The family which had performed the last rites of their father August 28 are now hardly left with any male member to perform the last rites of the dead.
An established business man in Muniguda area had been admitted to the hospital after developing breathing complications in the last week of August. He died August 28. After his death, the COVID-19 test report of the businessman came out positive a day later August 29. Out of his three sons, two sons (middle and youngest son) who performed the last rites of their father also tested positive for COVID-19.
The District Health Department admitted the duo at JK Pur COVID hospital for treatment. However, the health condition of the middle son deteriorated and he was shifted to Berhampur COVID-19 hospital for better treatment.
In the meantime August 3, the elder son of the business man also tested positive for COVID-19. Later, he was shifted to Bhubaneswar for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to COVID-19, September 1 morning. Much to the family’s horror, barely an hour after his death, the middle son of the family also succumbed to the disease at Berhampur COVID-19 hospital.
In a last ray of hope, the youngest son of the family is currently undergoing treatment at JK Pur hospital.
