Bhubaneswar: From June 2 to June 6, the Odisha government challaned 1,480 buses, good carrages and taxis of other states under the Odisha Motor Vehicle Taxation (OMVT) Act and Motor Vehicle Act.
The Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) carried out a special drive against the vehicles plying within Odisha without obtaining the required permit and not paying tax to the Odisha government.
During the five-day special drive by RTO, Odisha government earned Rs.2.12 crore penalties from the 1,480 vehicles.
RTO started the drive following the direction of State Transport Authority (STA).
The STA had directed the RTOs to undertake a special drive against vehicles plying within Odisha without obtaining the required permit and not paying the tax to the Odisha government.
Around 658 vehicles were found plying without permits whereas 70 vehicles were seized for failing to pay the tax and penalty as per the challan.
Odisha has made the online system for issue of permit and payment of tax in respect of commercial vehicles of other states visiting the state.
