Bhubaneswar: Sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid at the residence of former minister and BJD MLA from Baramba (Cuttack) Assembly constituency Debiprasad Mishra here Friday. The raid began at 9.00am and is continuing till the time of filing this copy. The raids are being conducted as Mishra is alleged to be involved in the ‘Seashore’ chit fund scam. So far the CBI is yet to issue any statement regarding the raid.
Meanwhile, Mishra later on said, “The CBI officials had come verify some old documents and they also asked me about the ‘boating project’ on Mahanadi. I also co-operated with the officials during the investigation.”
Mishra also informed that he had allowed Seashore Group to set up the boating project as per the Odisha government’s norms.
“The CBI has been investigation on Chit Fund scam since 2013. They did not come to conduct a raid in my house. They only came to clarify certain issues,” he added.
Mishra tested positive for COVID-19 August 31, 2020 and is currently in home isolation.
CBI had earlier questioned in January, 2019 two former ministers of BJD, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Arun Sahoo for their alleged involvement in the scam.
Lok Sabha MP Ramachandra Hansdah, MLAs Pravat Kumar Tripathy and Pravat Ranjan Biswal have been arrested for their involvement in the scam.
Seashore Group is one of the 44 ponzi companies in Odisha which came under the scanner of CBI following an order of the Supreme Court.
