Bargarh, Jan 2: Local police Thursday arrested nine persons on charges of selling mobile SIM cards through forged documents in various areas of the district.
The accused were identified as Arun Meher of Khuntapali, Debashish Naik of Turla, Sandip Agrawal Bargarh, Sheikh Shafiqu of Barpali, Birendra Kumar Guru and Premraj Thhapa of Bargarh-Mohanty Pada, Mohammed Sagir of Bishipada, Ardhendu Shekhar Tripathy of Jagatsinghpur and Baishnaba Charan Behera of Punanga.
Police said they have seized a computer system, printer, scanner, dongles and duplicate voters’ identity cards from them. Two separate cases were registered at Bargarh Town police station and Barpalo police station, police added.
Newly-appointed Bargarh sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Nrupacharan Dandsena said there were complaints against some retailers selling mobile SIM cards by forging documents. Police started an investigation after superintendent of police Umashankar Das issued an order to crack the case, he added. The SP also formed a special squad which raided several places in the last few days and arrested the nine persons for selling mobile SIM cards of prominent companies through forged documents.
They have sold about 20,000 SIM cards in fraudulent manners. As criminals and anti-social elements are using the SIM cards, further investigations are under way, the SDPO added.
