Cuttack, Dec 1: With the direct benefit transfer scheme for domestic LPG cylinders set to be reintroduced, the common man is still sceptical about the efficacy of the initiative.
Orissa Post spoke to some residents of Cuttack to elicit their opinion on the scheme. According to Biswa Bhushan Khuntia, a resident of Station Bazar, the scheme will complicate things. “Although Aadhaar number is not mandatory for obtaining the benefit, paying the full amount and getting subsidy through bank account will complicate matters,” he said. Now, after paying the full amount, a beneficiary has to wait for the amount to get credited into the bank account.
“Going by the way other government schemes function, it is unlikely that the subsidy will be credited on time,” he said.
Panchanan Jena, a resident of Badambadi said, “It is a good initiative but whether it will be implemented effectively is a matter of concern.”
Bansidhar Nayak, an employee at an Indane gas outlet said, “The scheme is meant to benefit gas companies like Indane, HP and others. Our agency is working to complete the formalities of all beneficiaries on time”. The customers need not be apprehensive as the process for implementing the scheme is simpler than expected. Shankar Dash, an employee of State Bank of India, Link Road Branch, said his bank is prepared to handle the rush. He assured that SBI employees are aware of the scheme and the ways to effectively implement it.
