Bhubaneswar: In order to promote clean mobility in public transportation and protect the environment the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has decided to start electric bus (e-bus) service by the end of January, next year. CRUT announced that it will launch 25 electric buses in the first phase and another 25 in the second phase. The second phase of launching will take place in March.
The electric buses will run under Odisha Government’s ‘Mo Bus’ scheme between Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri.
The e-buses will have the facilities like AC and CCTV cameras. Keeping in mind the comfort of the passengers, light and traditional music will be played during rides. Also USB charging points will be installed at each seats of bus.
As the bus will run without diesel or petrol, passengers will experience a noise-free journey. There will no need to change gears by the drivers as it will run automatically with three switches – reverse, neutral and drive.
For the e-buses two modern bus depots will be set up at Patia and Patrapada of Bhubaneswar with a cost of Rs 17 crore.
