Cuttack: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Cuttack district has pulled up a policeman of Narasinghpur police station for detaining a minor girl for three days and terminating her pregnancy. It said that the minor girl had been detained without proper procedures.

According to a CWC source, the girl had gone missing a few days back. An FIR was lodged by her family at the Narasinghpur police station to trace the missing girl. However, after locating the girl, police did not hand her over to her family. She was detained at the police station for three days. A pregnancy test was conducted on her. When her report came positive, she was forced to abort the baby.
Consent in this regard was not obtained from the CWC which is mandatory for the police official, the source added.
On being contacted, Athagarh SDPO Alok Ranjan Ray said, “A case has already been registered in this connection. A case under the POCSO Act will also be filed against the erring official. I will inquire about the allegations myself and talk to the girl as well as lady police personnel posted at the Narasinghpur police station.
