Bhadrak: At least 14 shops were gutted and properties worth over Rs 50 lakhs were charred as a major fire broke out late Thursday night at Tihidi area in Bhadrak district.

According to an eyewitness, the fire mishap occurred at a marketplace at around midnight. Sources said that the fire had originated from a fertiliser retail outlet and spread to other shops. A fire-fighting team reached the spot, but it ran out of water during while dousing the flames.
Exact reason of the fire mishap is yet to be ascertained. However, short circuit is said to be a probable cause of the inferno.
Cloth, grocery, fertiliser, vegetable and betel shops were completely gutted due to the fire. Damages caused by the inferno will be estimated after local RI and tehsildar reach the mishap site.
No casualties have been reported in the fire mishap yet.
