The University of Lahore in Pakistan expelled a couple after a video of a girl proposing her boyfriend and subsequently hugging him after he accepted the proposal went viral on social media.
The expulsion of the students has drawn mixed reactions from social media users. Many social media users condemned the action of the University and expressed their resentment on social media.
The video clip shows a girl bent on her knee on the ground, holding a rose bouquet and proposing to a boy. The boy then takes the flowers and pulls the girl for a hug. Nearby, students cheer them along.
The video garnered a lot of attention online, and after some time, the university also noticed. The University of Lahore then expelled both the students Hadiqa Javed and Shehryar Ahmed for embracing, giving flowers and presenting each other on the campus.
According to reports, a special disciplinary committee of the university held a meeting and called the students to discuss the incident. But, they failed to appear. Later, the committee decided to expel both the students and banned them from entering the university’s grounds.
“The two students were involved in gross misconduct and violation of university rules. The students in question were summoned before the committee but failed to appear. Thus, in pursuance of Section 9 of the General Discipline and Code of Conduct on the Campus, the committee has decided to expel the two students for violating the varsity’s rules and regulations and serious infraction of the code of conduct. Furthermore, as per Section 16, they are debarred from entering the premises of University of Lahore and all its sub-campuses,” read a statement from the University of Lahore.
