Bhubaneswar: As many as 10 students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar have tested positive for COVID-19, Khurda district collector Sanat Kumar Mohanty informed Sunday.
As a part of an exercise, swab samples of 45 IIT students were collected and sent for RT-PCR test. The test reports of 10 students came out to be positive for infection. All the infected students have come from other states.
“All the students have been put under quarantine,” informed Mohanty while adding that a doctor has visited the institute and that contact tracing is on.
Notably, earlier in the day, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had sealed ALLEN Coaching Institute, located at Maitree Vihar in Bhubaneswar after more than 20 of its students tested positive for COVID-19.
In view of the detection of a large number of COVID-I9 positive cases, ALLEN Coaching Institute in Maitree Vihar is being sealed until further orders, BMC said.
BMC further advised the institute authorities to keep the infected students in isolation in separate rooms and be kept in strict observation by the institute authority. The institute will also make necessary arrangements to supply food, essentials and medicines, if required, to the infected students.
