Malkangiri: More than 100 people belonging to different villages of Kalda panchayat in Malkangiri district fell ill after consuming lassi. While 60 villagers are undergoing treatment at Padia government hospital, others are receiving treatment at other hospitals and homes.
According to a source, they had consumed lassi at Kurti haat (weekly market) Friday. After returning home, while some complained of stomach ache, some others started vomiting. By night, some of them became so serious that they were required hospitalization.
On being informed, the district health department asked the fire department personnel to shift the patients to hospital. The critically ill patients were shifted to Padia government hospital in the night itself.
Meanwhile, a medical team visited the villages and enquired about the health condition of those who are undergoing treatment at their respective homes.
The health conditions of the villagers admitted to Padia government hospital are learnt to be stable.
According to some villagers, some poisonous insect could have fallen into the drink, turning the drink unfit for consumption. Unknown about the fact, the vendor had sold the drink to hundreds of people in the haat leading to the incident.
