Bhubaneswar: The low pressure system formed over east-central Bay of Bengal is getting more organised and becoming more marked as a well marked low pressure area. This was informed by the regional office of India Meteorological Department here Sunday.
The weathermen said the system is very likely to concentrate into a depression in the next 12 hours.
They further informed that it is very likely to move north and north-west, and intensify into a cyclonic storm by May 24. And in the subsequent 24 hours, it will intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm.
Meanwhile, Odisha government has already started taking measures for the possible cyclone. District Collectors and other officials, particularly of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts, have been asked to keep their powder dry. According to OSDMA sources, over 800 cyclone and flood shelters have been kept readied so that evacuees can be sheltered at any moment. At the same time, some school and college buildings that are lying vacant have also been identified as possible shelters. More number of shelters means there will be less congestion and social distance can be maintained.
