Bhubaneswar: There was a slight decrease in the number of new Covid-19 infections Monday as the state reported 8,313 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. For Sunday, the figure stood at 9,541. With the addition of the new cases, the active caseload in Odisha now stands at 91,663. Out of the new infections reported Monday, 4,655 were reported from quarantine centres while 3,658 persons contracted the virus locally. The number of new recoveries stands at 11,881.
Odisha also reported 35 fresh fatalities taking the toll in the state to 2,754 the Health and Family Welfare department said in a tweet. Angul district reported the highest number of deaths with five persons falling prey to the virus. The other districts that reported fatalities are: Cuttack, Kalahandi, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nabarangpur and Subarnapur (three each); Deogarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh (two each); Nayagarh and Nuapada (one each). Incidentally, all the three fatalities in Khurda district were reported from the state capital.
Khurda district registered the highest number of new Covid-19 cases with 974 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 593 new infections.

Other districts that reported new Covid-19 cases are: Mayurbhanj (532), Angul (505), Sundargarh (465), Balasore (452), Dhenkanal (407), Puri (405), Jajpur (354), Kendrapara (331), Nayagarh (283), Jagatsinghpur (280), Bargarh (279), Boudh (209), Nabarangpur (205), Sambalpur (204), Koraput (198), Keonjhar (180), Kalahandi (162), Rayagada (148), Ganjam (129), Subarnapur (123), Bolangir (119), Bhadrak (117), Jharsuguda (111), Malkangiri (103), Kandhamal (90), Gajapati (85), Deogarh (55) and Nuapada (53).
The State Pool reported 162 new cases in the last 24 hours. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.
A total of 1,17,73,072 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far.
