Chhatrapur: The Ganjam Collector has expressed serious displeasure over sharing of official letters by government officials on social media platforms which is an act of negligence and a violation of the Official Secrecy Act, a report said.
The issue acquired prominence after Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange was informed about misuse of social media platforms by officials of various government offices in the district.
Kulange has come to know that officials in various government offices, particularly the clerical staff are sharing various official letters in social networking sites like WhatsApp and in other platforms.
Expressing his displeasure, Kulange, in a letter-1090, has directed various departmental heads to keep a tab on these developments and take stringent action against the concerned officials.
The letter has been issued to departmental heads like the chief district medical officer (CDMO), general manager(GM) of the District Industries Centre, district tourist officer(DTO), chief district education officer (CDEO), chief district agricultural officer (CDAO), district horticulture officer(DHO), deputy director of fisheries department and project director of district watershed department.
Any clerical staff sharing the official letter in social media platforms will be deemed as his negligence towards duty, the Collector observed.
Any person in need of information has to visit the district website or through the public domain of district information and public relations officer (DIPRO) to get the information.
Government officials sharing official letters in social media platforms is not a healthy practice, the Collector has observed in his letter.
Anybody found violating the order will be severely dealt with and stringent action will be taken against him, the Collector has warned.
