Berhampur: Dengue is reportedly spreading in parts of Ganjam. Another dengue case was detected in Sorada area. The latest is the fifth case in the district, said district malaria control officer Dr Santosh Padhi.
The gradual rise of dengue cases has been a cause of concern for local people and the health department as well.
A trader of Sorada area was down with fever August 6 and admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. His blood sample was sent for test which came out positive for dengue August 9.
In the wake of the case, a team of health officials visited the village of the patient and made people of aware of some preventive measures.
Another team of doctors led by district malaria control officer(vector-borne) Dr Sanotsh Kumar Padhi will visit the village. A woman of Aska has also tested positive for dengue August 8.
Another person, an ex-army man, was found positive for dengue in the district August 7. A girl had tested positive for dengue August 6. She is a nursing officer. The first dengue patient was detected in the district July 22.
Locals were panicked in the areas where dengue cases have been detected while officials of the health department are taking up preventive measures and advising people to keep their surroundings neat and clean.
Anganwadi workers, ASHAs and ANMs have been directed to visit villages and carry out awareness drive in the affected areas.
