Phulbani: Conjoined twins survivor Jaga from Melupada village in Kandhamal district, who had lost his brother Balia last year following separation, has got a newborn sister, his family said Saturday.
According to Jaga’s father Bhuan Kanhar, the family is happy to have got a baby girl as part of their family. She has been named Subhadra. Jaga’s mother Puspanjali gave birth to the baby girl at Phulbani district headquarters hospital (DHH) August 7.
“We became heartbroken following the demise of Balia. A newborn girl in our family has helped us overcome the deep grief. Everyone in our family is very happy and the infant is healthy,” Pushpanjali said.

“Jaga feels immensely happy to play with Subhadra. He is taking care of his sister. Everybody in the DHH was delighted as a girl was born and they named her after Goddess Subhadra,” Bhuan shared.
Notably, Jaga and Balia were separated at AIIMS-New Delhi after a marathon surgery conducted over 11 hours October 25, 2017.
Balia breathed his last November 26, 2020, owing to septicemia. The survivor is presently under observation at the DHH.
