Chhatrapur: Seven years have passed since a college student was gang-raped and murdered at Dharmasharanpur in Ganjam district. The Crime Branch has failed to get a breakthrough and arrest the culprits.
As the case drags on, locals accused the Crime Branch of being in slumber, a report said.
According to reports, an orphaned girl of Dharmasharanpur was pursuing Plus-II. August 2, 2014, the girl had gone to her farmland with her aunt at Benigouri. After work, she was returning home alone. But she did not reach home.
August 3, her body was found near a hill in a cashew forest with multiple injuries. It was alleged that the girl was gangraped and murdered.
Ganjam police started an investigation into the rape, but failed to crack the case. Later, the case was handed over to the Crime Branch. But the CB has so far failed to find out who were involved in the crime.
Locals and various outfits had staged agitations over the failure of the CB in cracking the case.
Another case being investigated by the CB has met the same fate. A person suspected to a Maoist was detained at Chamakhandi police station. The accused had died in police custody. The case was handed over to the Crime Branch, but there is no headway in the case.
Ganjam police have also failed to get breakthroughs in many other cases. A girl of SC community was found hanging in Benigouri Road area December, 16, 2016. Five years have passed, but the case has not been cracked by police.
September 14, 2020, a woman of Nimashala village was found hanging at Palang panchayat under Rambha police limits. It was confirmed that she was raped and hanged. 14 local outfits had gheroaed the police station, demanding arrest of the culprits. But the case has not made much progress, it was alleged.
