Cuttack: A Jagatsinghpur based businessman suffered gunshot injuries after two unidentified motorcycle-borne armed miscreants shot at him at Athanga locality in Kandarpur area of Cuttack city in broad daylight Thursday. After firing at him, they snatched away the cash bag, containing Rs 1 lakh and sped away from the spot.
The businessman, who has been identified as Khirod Behera, received a bullet on his thigh.
According to a source, Behera runs a grocery shop in Jagatsinghpur. He was coming to Malgodown in Cuttack in an auto-rickshaw to buy articles for his shop. As he neared Athanga, two miscreants on a motorcycle came from behind, opened fire at him and sped away from the spot with the cash bag.
Hearing the firing sound, passersby came to his rescue and rushed him to SCB Medical College and Hospital. He is presently undergoing treatment.
On being informed, police visited the spot and started a probe into the incident. A manhunt has also been launched to nab the culprits.
While the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, the police suspect loot to be the reason.
