Puri: Civil supplies and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Das Burma Thursday directed the district administration to lodge FIRs against people who have acquired ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) fraudulently.
Das Burma asked collector Aravind Agarwal, at a meeting of the zila parishad, to submit a report regarding the action taken on ineligible beneficiaries of NFSA within four days.
The minister directed the district administration to take stern action against ineligible beneficiaries of NFSA after several zila parishad members raised concern over large-scale irregularities in the distribution of ration cards.
“Many people from the 11 blocks of the district have fraudulently acquired rations cards,” alleged Nimapara MLA and district yojana board chairman Sameer Ranjan Das.
A few members expressed dissatisfaction over delay in the completion of a housing project for families of fishermen of the district. The state government had allocated funds for the provision of concrete houses to 153 fishermen families there years ago, sources said. However, the district administration has so far provided houses to only 13 families of fishermen.
Zila parishad chairman Dibakar Patra, who presided over the meeting, directed officials of the rural water supply and sanitation (RWSS) department to expedite work on all drinking water projects in the district.
Patra directed the district administration to lay cement-concrete roads to all villages having populations of more than 500. He also asked officials of the district Sarva Sikhya Abhiyan to speed up school building construction work.
