Cuttack, Jan 10: Riding on an all round performance by Swagatika Rath, Orissa eves started their campaign with a 11 run victory over Maharashtra in the National Senior Women’s T-20 cricket tournament in Pune, Saturday.
In an Elite Group-A tie, Orissa set a victory target of 108 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Madhuri Mehta (38, 51b, 2×4), Madhusmita Behera (29, 41b, 2×4) and Swagatika Rath (21, 17b, 2×4) all made useful contributions with the bat to help Orissa post a challenging total. DP Vaidya (2/24) of Maharashtra scalped two wickets to put Orissa batters under check to some extent.
In reply, Maharashtra could manage only 96 runs in the stipulated over, losing seven wickets in the process. Anuja Patil (26, 34, 3×4) was the highest scorer for the team. Swagatika Rath (3/15) replicated her batting success in the bowling to help Orissa post an easy victory. Orissa will meet Railway in their next match Sunday.
